Why is a Date of Death Appraisal Required?

When an estate has a transfer of ownership due to death or inheritance, it is very common for a real estate appraisal to be needed for tax purposes. Typically, an executor, family member or heir chooses an appraiser for the job, or an attorney or accountant will order the appraisal.

When Should A Date of Death Appraisal Be Done?

Sooner is always better. The task of ascertaining the value of a home at the time of death is easily accomplished if not too much time has passed. You'll need to have a certified appraisal dated for "the date of death."

In many cases, a Date of Death appraisal is ordered between two to six months after the death has occurred. While every situation is different, Mike strives to provide his esteemed clients with the best possible experience, regardless of their needs or the elapsed time.
